Ambassadors on the go: China

Launched in 2023, the Swiss Arbitration Ambassador Programme continues to connect Switzerland with arbitration communities around the world. The programme brings together a network of ambassadors committed to promoting Swiss Arbitration and fostering international collaboration.

In China, ASA’s Ambassador Mingze Jiang is working to further deepen ties between the Swiss and Chinese arbitration communities. Through academic exchanges, institutional engagement and cooperation with leading Chinese arbitration institutions, the programme continues to create opportunities for dialogue and collaboration.

Together with the Shanghai International Arbitration Center (SHIAC), ASA convened a forum titled “Efficiency and Boundaries: New Perspectives on Document Production in International Arbitration”.The event brought together arbitrators, practitioners and academics from Switzerland, China and other jurisdictions to discuss how document production can be managed efficiently while respecting appropriate procedural boundaries. The forum was followed by a networking reception co-hosted with the Swiss Chamber of Commerce in China, offering participants a further opportunity to exchange views and connect across the arbitration and business communities.

In Shenzhen, ASA partnered with the Shenzhen Court of International Arbitration (SCIA) for a seminar titled “A Civil Law Dialogue: Chinese and Swiss Jurisprudence in International Arbitration”, exploring how Swiss procedural practices – tribunal case management, party autonomy and evidentiary rules – may inform the development of international arbitration in China. At the close of the seminar, SCIA and ASA renewed their existing cooperation agreement, establishing a framework for future joint initiatives.

Mingze explains:

“Under the new cooperation agreement, SCIA will provide office and meeting facilities, and both parties will offer reciprocal technical support for events and activities. This initiative significantly strengthens ASA’s presence and long‑term commitment in China. Switzerland and China can mature into lasting mutual confidence that allows different legal traditions to inspire one another.

Building on these milestones and growing interest from Chinese practitioners, the Swiss-Chinese arbitration dialogue continues to strengthen and open new doors. Through the Swiss Arbitration Ambassadors, we transform efforts into meaningful connections – one partnership and one jurisdiction at a time.
