The Japan Association of Arbitrators (JAA) and the Swiss Arbitration Association (ASA) are proud to co-host this flagship conference during Japan International Arbitration Week (JIAW25), in partnership with the Ministry of Justice, the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry and the Japan Commercial Arbitration Association (JCAA).
Taking place on 25 November 2025 at CO・MO・RE YOTSUYA in Tokyo, this full-day event will bring together leading practitioners, policymakers, and academics to explore current challenges and future directions in international arbitration.
The programme features:
  • A keynote address by Gary Born (WilmerHale) on Arbitrating Trade Disputes: New Approaches to New Challenges.
Three expert panels tackling pressing topics:
  1. International Trade in a New World Order – How to Solve Tariff-Related Disputes
    • Moderated by Yoshimi Ohara (Nagashima Ohno & Tsunematsu) with Andrés Jana (Jana & Gil), Sanjeev Kapoor (Khaitan & Co), Lars Markert (Nishimura & Asahi), Huawei Sun (Zhong Lun).
  2. Suitable Venues for Commercial and Investment Disputes in a Time Where Arbitration is Under Attack
    • Moderated by Michael Mroczek (Nozomi Sogo) with Cecilia Carrera (Legance), Felix Dasser (Homburger), Tony Dymond (Debevoise & Plimpton), Yoshiko Hosokawa (Oh-Ebashi LPC & Partners)
  3. Choice of Law and Forum in International Trade Contracts – Lessons Learned
    • Moderated by Kevin Kim (Peter & Kim) with Christopher Boog (Schellenberg Wittmer), Anthony Houghton SC (Des Voeux Chambers), Andrew Pullen (Fountain Court Chambers), Seri Takahashi (Mori Hamada & Matsumoto).
